Goldenwood Forest
When you step out of the cave, you'll notice the whole landscape has changed. Two Team Xen grunts will ambush you at the cave entrance. Melia literally kicks one of the grunts off screen for no reason other than entertainment. The other grunt gets ignored, and feels like he needs to prove himself by battling you.
Catch up with Melia. She'll then tell you about Shadow Pokemon, and equip your Pokeballs with a Snag Machine (which somehow she knows how to do) + give you a set of 20 Great Balls. She'll join your party, and will heal your Pokemon when needed.
Continue down the path, and run into a few more Team Xen Grunts. The first one will have a Shadow Sewaddle which you will be able to "snag" (If you haven't played Pokemon Colosseum, google it).
At the top of the map, there will be a shortcut scene:
Before you do anything else, go to the bottom of the map and pick up the hidden Ability Capsule:
Heal your Pokemon, and approach the mysterious figure standing on the little land section that goes into the lake.
He'll introduce himself as Zetta, a Team Xen leader, and tell you how they're trying to capture Melia or something. Zetta then creates a Dimensional Rift in the lake, and turns a Gyarados into a Dimensional Rift Gyarados. To ensure you aren't powerful enough to take out his Dimensional Rift, he'll challenge you to a battle:

- Team Xen Amelia: Lv 13 Sewaddke (Shadow), Lv 12 Smoochum, Lv 14 Oddish
- Team Xen Larcy: Lv 13 Stunfisk, Lv 14 Snorunt
At the top of the map, there will be a shortcut scene:
After you make your way to the bottom of the map again, Eli and Sharon, two somewhat comical Team Xen characters will challenge you to a battle. I thought the storyline behind these two was quite amusing. You'll see them later on:
- Misfortunate Duo Eli and Sharon: Lv 14 Lunatone, Lv 15 Solrock

- Team Xen Admin Zetta: Lv 14 Murkrow, Lv 14 Froakie (Shadow), Lv 14 Sneasel, Lv 15 Weezing
- Dimensional Rift: Lv 55 Gyarados (D)
- Moveset: Rain Dance, Waterfall, Earthquake, ?Ice Fang
- This is a battle you are suppose to lose (regardless of the outcome of the battle the same thing happens in terms of storyline! Although if you do win you are rewarded handsomely with a ton of money, which is always handy.
- This is how I usually win this battle:
- Have a Pokemon with either Toxic/Poison Powder/Leech Seed/Thunder Wave or combination of 2 or more. Having a Pokemon with Protect/Sturdy also helps quite a bit.
- The aim of this is to try and toxic/Seed Stall him out - i.e. let the residual damage rack up instead of your puny under Lv20 Pokemon attack
- On the first turn, 40% of the time Gyarados will use Rain Dance to set up the rain - use this turn to fire off the Toxic/Leech Seed. Let it start fainting your Pokemon, use Potions where required, etc. Having Chinese Food + Sturdy Pokemon is very useful for this.
After the battle, Melia will realise that you two are too weak to take on both Team Xen and the Dimensional Rift, and will run away. Before this though, the Shiny Garbodor from earlier comes through and toxics the Gyarados, weakening it.
She instructs her Togepi to use metronome......and uses Judgement, which knocks you out. You wake up at the bottom of the map. She instructs her togepi then to use Alpha Metronome to Teleport you two away from the Lake since all the exits are blocked off. You'll arrive inside the Pokemon Laboratory, where Melia will request to go see Prof. Jenner and scamper off.
When you go into Jenner's room though, you'll see that Jenner is being interrogated by Madelis, another Team Xen Admin. Turns out Jenner sold Melia out to Team Xen! Melia tries to get her Togepi to Alpha Metronome Teleport again, but is struck by Medelis' Houndoom and is weakened. She still gets away though. Madelis goes after Melia, whereas Jenner feels guilty and is about to tell you everything......but then a Gothetelle shows up and teleports him away....
Ren will be super confused, so you inform him of what has just happened. He'll tell you that you need to go to Route 2 to go after Melia, but to get through Route 2 you need Rock Smash, which you'll need a badge for, hence you need to beat Venam, the gym leader to gain access. Prepare accordingly, and then head to the Gym.
