Pokemon Rejuvenation Walkthrough - Part 3 - Gearen Up!

Gearen City
TL;DR Summary
- Tonnes of items lying around
- Train a bit before advancing
- Catch some team members so you don't go over the Lv. 20 Cap

Sorry about the punny title, I had to do it. Anyway, Gearen City is massive! It'll take a while to complete every mini-quest/side story here, and there are things you can't do until you unlock them later on in the game. Because I'm helpful, I'll point out the things you can do for now, and I'll write separately for the ones later on.

I looked pretty much everywhere to find the actual map for Gearen City and couldn't find it, so here is my shoddy mud map (I am clearly not an artist/graphics designer, so yeah). Bare in mind this is quite a rudimentary map, and I've left out quite a few things, including all the various apartments in the city + important NPCs - I'll try and update the map for these as I go but will endeavour to point them out anyway.

Before you can do anything else though, you'll have to fight a few of the trainers on the paths outside the Pokemon Lab. These trainers don't f**k around, and depending on your difficulty setting I believe the level of their Pokemon will be different. They'll also get stronger each time you win a badge and be available for rematch I think:

  • Hardcore Trainer Derek: Lv 3 Bellsprout, Lv 3 Bidoof
  • Enthusiast Annette: Lv 4 Azurill, Lv 4 Patrat
  • Bug Tamer Bugger: Lv 4 Venonat, Lv 5 Weedle
  • Mistress Nadine: Lv 6 Wurmple, Lv 5 Bonsly
  • Enthusiast Lacey: Lv 4 Patrat, Lv 5 Wurmple
  • Hiker Denko: Lv 6 Zubat, Lv 6 Wooper, Lv 7 Wooper
  • Prima Donna Bianca: Lv 6 Azurill, Lv 7 Woobat
  • Gang Member Rufus: Lv 7 Teddiursa, Lv 9 Pidove
  • Black Belt Jared (in front of a house): Lv 5 Tyrogue, Lv 6 Zigzagoon
  • Pokemon Breeder Jesse (Can be battled as many times as you want): Lv 7 Patrat, Lv 9 Pidgey, Lv 9 Pidove, Lv 8 Zigzagoon
Anyway, here's how the next section goes: I'm going to cover the non-essential things to do in Gearen City in this section. If you just want to do stuff essential to the storyline, go to the next post! So yeah, I'll go through each building in Gearen one at a time:

Name Rater's House
To the left of the Lab. In case you screwed up any of your nicknames.

Gearen Park
Go nuts and catch yourself some wild Pokemon.
Pokemon - Bidoof, Purrloin, Caterpie, Rattata, Pidgey

Daycare Centre
Won't be open....yet.

Sketchy Shop
Battle Black Belt Jared to gain access. Little girl inside next to the stuffed Mewtwo toy will give you a Rare Candy. Guy at the counter will sell you Reverse Candy (not worth purchasing at this stage unless you've got a Pokemon over level 20 - this is the cap level until the first badge, and your Pokemon will not obey you all the time over this level).

Help Centre
Help Centre is located near the Gearen Park. I like the idea of this feature - gives you other side quests to do and handy prizes if you do them, which is always nice. How it works is you go to the board and choose a mission. If you get stuck you talk to the girl with the purple hair for hints. Once you complete the mission you talk to the lady at the counter to claim your reward.

  1. Lost Pokemon: "My Pokemon got attacked and ran away"
    • Meet the Girl at the Pokemon Centre (Not the Lab, PC in top right next to Casino). She's the girl with the Red Hat next to the shelves. She's concerned because her Turtwig ran away. Anyway, turns out a thug has cornered Turtwig next to the lab and you'll have to fight him to get it back. (Gang Member Deng: Lv 8 Stunky, Lv 9 Trubbish). After you beat him, Turtwig runs away. Go tot he Pokemon Centre and the girl will be happy. Claim your reward from the Counter Lady.
    • Reward: $350

  1. Truant Son: "My son thinks it's fine for him to skip school. Show him a lesson"
    • Find him in the Downstairs L room with the arena in it at Chrisola Hotel. Obviously he's not going to come quietly, and will challenge you to a battle. (Punk Joey: Lv 8 Helioptile, Lv 11 Lillipup). After you beat him, he'll mumble and teleport away. Speak tot he Counter lady for your reward.
    • Reward: Full Heal, $500
  2. Love Letter: "There's a person I like, too scared to ask or something"
    • Deliver letters between two guys. First guy is at Gearen Park, he'll give you a love letter to deliver to Cameron, who is apparently on the other side of town. Cameron is actually just next to Christola Hotel. He'll say yes and judge you for being homophobic. Go talk to the first guy again and he'll be happy. Claim your reward from the Counter Lady.
    • Reward: 5 Great Balls.

  1. Deliver Something: "Super busy at work, deliver something for me"
    • Lazy ass people. Meet this guy at the PokeMart, he'll give you a Weird Letter. You need to deliver it to the Police Officer next to the Lab (next to the statue). The Police Officer will think it's shady and give you a Reverse Candy. Go back to the Mart and tell the guy. he'll get scared and run away. Claim your reward from Counter Lady.
    • Reward: $350, ?? (Nugget)

  1. Attacked!!: "Take out that Snubbull at Oceana Pier"
    • Probably the best request here - you get a really useful Pokemon + Rewards. Anyway, head down to Oceana Pier, Snubbull will be hanging around here. Fairy typing is super useful in this game (esp. for Shadow Pokemon), and a defensive one with Intimidate will being very handy. You can either faint (waste) or catch the Snubbull. Claim your reward from the Counter Lady.
    • Rewards: Super Potion, $350

  1. Battle Me! "I want to battle a strong trainer"
    • This motherf****r. Anyway you can meet this dude at Christola Hotel Downstairs L Room where the little boy was. Hardcore Trainer Adrian will challenge you to a battle (Lv 15 Helioptile, Lv 16 Vivillon, Lv 16 Hawlucha, Lv 17 Vulpix, Lv 16 Poochyena, Lv 18 Eevee)
    • Reward: $600, Litleo

Chrisola Hotel/Palace/Casino
Top right hand corner. Everyone in here is snobby and looks down on you.
  • Entrance (just before Casino - I am told the wild Pokemon here are different to the Park ones)
    • Available - Nidoran-M/Nidoran-F, Wumrple, Purrloin
  • Right Wing - Gentleman in the 2nd room will tip you 200$ because you are poor and need it. Little boy in the last room will give you Antidotes that his mother tried to feed him......wut.
  • Left Wing - First room will be Tesla, who will let you use her bed to recover your Pokemon. In the second room the girl will give you her Mareep after you have enough badges. Man at the end of the hall way will give you a Sweet Heart because you look poor. Finally, girl blocking the entrance tot he final room will battle you for access to the Hotel Garden. (Mistress Madeline: Lv 9 Budew, Lv 9 Gulpin)
    • Hotel Garden - catch wild Pokemon!
      • Available: Cherubi, Caterpie, Metapod, Oddish
  • Downstairs R side - there's a pool that's been infested with Pokemon! Not sure which ones as of yet
  • Downstairs L side - Arena for battling, you will use this later on!
  • Casino Section - In the middle section with the vendors, Talk to the girl standing next to the glass cases. She'll tell you she's flushing her Coin Case down the drain. You will need to go down to the Sewers to get this. Anyway the prizes at the casino are:
    • TMs - Flash (1,000 coin), Facade (4000 coin), Substitute (7000 coins)
    • Pokemon -  Seel (1000 coin), Espurr (4000 coins), Helioptile (10,000)
      • Seel is piss weak and doesn't get STAB water moves till Lv 31 (Aqua Jet) so I wouldn't recommend using it, even though Ice is a great offensive type in this game. Helioptile is nice to use, especially if you get a Dry Skin one, but getting a Sun Stone requires massive amounts of luck (using the Pickup Ability), so be cautious about using one. Espurr is nice though.

Violet Apartments
Bottom right corner of Gearen City. Girl in Apartment 1A will give you her Lillipup when you have enough badges. 3C lady will give you a potion. Granny in 4E will also give you a potion.

Emerald Apartments
Right next to the Gym. Lady in first room will give you Full Heal. Second apart is Hardcore Trainer Salem who will fight you for being in his house (Lv 11 Snivy, Lv 12 Tepig, Lv 13 Oshawott). Lady on the 4th floor grows weed in her apartment and will give you an Oran Berry. There's nothing on the rooftop.

Velvet Apartments
Right next to Emerald Apartments. In Apartment 2 Punk Jason will challenge you to a battle (Lv 8 Aipom, Lv 11 Aipom). TALKING TO THE WOMAN IN APART 4 WILL CAUSE A SCRIPT ERROR SO DON'T TALK TO HER. Otherwise, if you head up to the roof there will be a garden with wild Pokemon.
  • Velvet Rooftop
    • Available wild - Hoothoot, Pidove, Bellsprout, Burmy
      • Emolga Lv 15 (Event Pokemon) - On certain nights. Not sure if these are set, but I found this one on a Tuesday Night.

Aqua Apartments
Next to the Help Centre. DO NOT GO INTO APARTMENT 2B - SHE HAS LV 93 ALAKAZAM. Anyway, dude in Apart 3 will give you an Ultra Ball and the other one will be condescending towards you. Guy in Apartment 5 will trade his Mankey for a Male Swoobat (You can catch these later on, or train a Woobat easily). You can catch Mankeys later on as well if you want.
On the rooftop you'll meet Maurice who is trying to steal something, and tells you to go meet a girl "at the southern part of town". She'll be at the bottom right of Gearen City and give you the Mystery Goods:

Go back and give Maurice the Mystery Goods. For your troubles he'll give you a Nugget. He also says he might have work for you later on......

Here's a montage of screenshots of all the items I could find in Gearen City (if you found something I missed please let me know and I'll add it to the list!

Essential to the Storyline:
Venam's House
As you approach the house, you'll see some dialogue between Venam and her mother. Things get rocky and she storms out. She says she's going to the Sewers to hang out. Weird place to hang out if you ask me, but whatever floats your boat I guess.

We will continue the storyline in the next section.....
